Beverage Mgr – Dynamic Chef-driven Concept

We are seeking a Front of House/ Beverage Manager for an upscale concept in Chicago. It is the responsibility of the Beverage Manager to lead the high volume bar operations to ensure service excellence to all guests, educating the service staff, and keeping the concept on-trend with spirits, wine, beer, and mixology. 

  • The Beverage Manager is accountable for all functions of bar operations including but not limited to the following:Taking 100% ownership of the beverage program with a daily “in the trenches” approach to service
  • Being hospitable, warm, and approachable to everyone at all times
  • Working with culinary and restaurant management to pair wine, beer, and craft cocktails to the a la carte and tasting menus to ensure superior beverage and food compatibility and service timing
  • Being able to resolve conflict and guest complaints in a professional, diplomatic, and empathetic manner with the ability to turn negative situations into positive outcomes
  • Hiring, training, and scheduling all bar staff
  • Creating a culture of learning for new staff
  • On a daily basis, arriving with ample time before the shift begins to check in with the staff and ensure mise en place for service
  •  Qualifications: At least three years of bar and beverage program management experience in a fine dining environment
  • Working knowledge of bar financials, and the ability to effectively manage costs and expenses, achieving company margin and profit goals
  • Superior comprehension of Latin wine, beer, spirits, especially Tequila and Mezcal
  • Ability to recruit, schedule, train and inspire staff
  • Above average computer skills including POS systems, scheduling systems, spreadsheets, word processing, internet, and email
  • Ability to represent the company to, and deal effectively with, guests, vendors, media and other company contacts
  • Ability to work cooperatively with a wide range of company staff in a team-oriented work setting, including ability to take the role of leader/facilitator in areas of responsibility
  • Strong interest in and commitment to the company mission, purpose and principles
  • Demonstrated planning, administrative, organizational and time management skills
  • Strong communication skills, including ability to convey ideas, give and take feedback
